Escrow for Roblox Game Sales
Funds move only when ownership does.
A Roblox escrow service replaces trust with structure: the buyer's money sits with a licensed third party until the official Roblox ownership transfer is verified, so neither side has to trust the other.
Why Roblox game deals get scammed
Unprotected peer-to-peer deals fail in predictable ways. Whoever moves first (money or game) is exposed, and scammers engineer the deal so that it's you.
Fake purchase contracts that demand transfer first
An official-looking purchase agreement arrives with one condition: move the experience first, payment follows. Once the game is transferred, the leverage is gone, and so is the buyer.
Discord buyer and middleman impersonation
Known buyers and trusted middlemen get cloned with near-identical usernames and profile art. You vet the real person, then unknowingly hand the deal to the fake.
Fake payment screenshots
A doctored PayPal or bank confirmation 'proves' the money was sent. The seller transfers the experience; the payment never existed.
Chargebacks after direct payment
The most painful version: a real payment lands via PayPal or Cash App, the game transfers, and weeks later the buyer disputes the charge. Digital-goods disputes routinely resolve against the seller, and the money and the game are both gone.
Roblox's own support page warns players that an unsolicited offer to buy or sell an experience is "probably a scam", and for unprotected deals, it's right. There is no official system to settle a private trade, so the trust problem has to be solved with structure: a written agreement, licensed escrow, and the official ownership transfer. Wondering if selling is even allowed? What the rules actually say.
How escrow fixes it
Escrow breaks the "who moves first" standoff by putting a licensed third party between the money and the game. See the full buying and selling walkthrough for the marketplace side of the process.
Buyer funds escrow
The buyer deposits the full purchase price with Escrow.com, a licensed third-party escrow provider. The seller can see the money is secured, but nobody can touch it.
Seller transfers ownership
The seller moves the experience using Roblox's official ownership transfer, shipped in December 2024 on the Creator Hub. The experience changes hands; no account ever does.
Buyer verifies
The buyer confirms the experience, its assets, and ownership all arrived exactly as agreed before anything is released.
Funds release
Escrow.com releases the money to the seller, minus Romarket's platform fee. Deal closed, with a paper trail.
At no point can either side hold both the money and the game. That single property is what eliminates exit scams in both directions.
Two things this is not
Not Roblox's "escrowed Robux"
Roblox's creator dashboard shows Robux as "escrowed" while pending Marketplace sales clear. That is an internal Roblox accounting state for item sales. It has nothing to do with buying or selling games, and Roblox does not operate an escrow service for game sales.
Not a Discord middleman service
A Roblox middleman service asks you to trust one individual, exactly the role scammers impersonate. Escrow.com is a licensed, bonded escrow company with published fees and a formal dispute process. The process holds even when the other person does not.
Fees and timelines
What the buyer pays
The Escrow.com processing fee, typically around 2.6% of the price with a $50 minimum on transactions under $5,000, and a lower percentage above that. See Escrow.com's published fee schedule for exact figures.
What the seller pays
Romarket's platform fee, charged only when a sale completes: 5% up to $5,000, 4% from $5,001 to $50,000, and 3% above $50,000. No listing fees, no upfront costs, no subscriptions. Full breakdown on the pricing page.
How long does it take? Once the buyer funds escrow, deals typically close in days. The gating steps are the ownership transfer and the buyer's verification, not weeks of paperwork.
What if something goes wrong?
The seller never transfers
The money never moved to the seller, it was never theirs to take. The transaction is cancelled and the full amount returns to the buyer.
The buyer rejects after inspection
If the buyer believes the experience doesn't match the listing, the transaction enters Escrow.com's dispute process. Funds stay locked with the licensed escrow provider until it is resolved. Neither side can walk away with both sides of the deal.
Payment methods compared
The question that decides whether you keep your money or your game: who holds the funds while ownership moves?
| Method | Who holds the money | If the deal goes bad |
|---|---|---|
| Direct PayPal / Cash App | The other party, immediately | Chargebacks for months after the deal; digital-goods disputes rarely favor sellers |
| Crypto | The other party, immediately | Irreversible by design, no recourse at all |
| Discord middleman | An individual you have to trust | Unlicensed and unaccountable; impersonation is the classic attack |
| Romarket + Escrow.com | A licensed escrow provider, until the transfer is verified | Funds return to the buyer or enter a formal dispute process; published fees |
Roblox game escrow, answered
Is Escrow.com legit?
Yes. Escrow.com is a licensed escrow provider. Its services are provided by Internet Escrow Services, Inc., licensed and bonded under California escrow law. It is the standard escrow service for high-value online deals like domain names, vehicles, and online-business sales.
Who pays the escrow fee?
The buyer. Escrow.com's processing fee is typically around 2.6% of the price with a $50 minimum for transactions under $5,000, and the percentage drops on larger deals. Sellers pay nothing upfront, only Romarket's 3-5% platform fee when a sale completes.
What if the seller never transfers the game?
Funds never release. Escrow.com holds the money until the buyer confirms the transfer, so a seller who doesn't deliver is never paid. The transaction is cancelled and the full amount returns to the buyer.
Can I use this escrow for a private deal I found elsewhere?
No. Escrow protection is built into Romarket listings rather than offered as a standalone middleman service. If you've already agreed on a deal, the seller can list the game on Romarket, listing is free, and you complete the purchase with full escrow protection.
Early access. New listings are added as sellers join. This page describes deal mechanics and is not legal advice.
Buy and sell with the trust problem solved
Every Romarket listing settles through Escrow.com, no exceptions, no transfer-first deals.
